Anonymity is the product, not a setting.
The short version
A finder never learns anything about the owner. An owner learns only what the finder chose to send. We do not sell data, we do not run advertising, and there is no third party tracking in the finder flow.
What we hold about an account holder
Your email address, a hashed password, the name you chose to display, and the codes you have created along with whatever you wrote on them. If you subscribe, our payment provider holds your card details and we hold only their reference to your customer record. If you order stickers, we hold the delivery address for as long as we need it to post and to answer a query about the order.
What we hold about a finder
When a code is scanned we record the time, the code, and a one-way hash of the network address and browser the scan came from. The hash exists so one person cannot flood a code with alerts, and it cannot be reversed into an address.
If a finder sends an alert we store what they chose to include: what they did with the item, a location if they tapped to share one, a description of the spot, a message, and a name, phone number or email if they entered them. All of that is optional except the choice of what they did with the item.
Location
Location is only ever requested after a finder taps the button, and their browser asks them to allow it before anything is read. Nothing is captured in the background, and a location is only sent as part of an alert the finder submits. It is shown to the owner as a map link and is deleted with the alert.
How long we keep things
Alerts are kept for thirty days on the free plan and until you delete them on Plus. Scan records are kept for ninety days. Deleting a code removes it and its alert history immediately. Closing your account removes everything except the order records we are required to keep for tax purposes.
Who else sees it
Our payment provider processes subscriptions and orders, and our email provider delivers alerts and receipts. Both are given only what they need to do that job. Nobody else receives your data, and none of it is used for advertising.
Your choices
You can export or delete your data from your account at any time, and you can ask us for a copy of anything we hold. Turning a code off stops its finder page working without deleting the history behind it.
